Medical Doctor Specialist in Maxillofacial Surgery Specialist in Odontostomatology
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Naples “Federico II” with the highest honors in 1980. He specialized in Odontostomatology at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” with the highest honors in 1983. He specialized in Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Naples “Federico II” with the highest honors in 1988.
From 1980 to 1981, he was an assistant trainee in the Odontostomatology department at the Piemonte Hospital in Messina. From 1981 to 1983, he was a postgraduate student in Odontostomatology at the dental clinic of the University “La Sapienza,” Rome. From 1983 to 1988, he was a postgraduate student in Maxillofacial Surgery at the Maxillofacial Surgery Department of the University “Federico II,” Naples.
Between 1994 and 1997, he taught in various university master’s programs, including the Level I Master in Implantology at the University of Florence, the Master in “Craniofacial Epitheses with Osseointegrated Anchors” at the Plastic Surgery Department of the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, and the “Master in Implantoprosthetics” at the dental clinic of the University “La Sapienza” in Rome.
From 1998 to 2001, from 2004 to 2013, and from 2018 to the present, he has served as a contract professor at the School of Specialization in Maxillofacial Surgery at the University “Federico II” in Naples.
From 2005 to 2020, he was again a lecturer in specialized master’s programs at various Italian and foreign universities, including the University of Rochester (USA), Di Guarulos (Brazil), San Marino, Siena, Varese, Perth (Australia), and others.
Since the 1980s, he has frequently visited the Branemark Clinic in Gothenburg, where he deepened his study of the basic principles and clinical applications of advanced implantology, maintaining constant contact with Prof. Branemark and his team of researchers and clinicians. During those years, he participated in various international clinical trials on the applications of implantology in partial and total edentulism.
In subsequent years, he came into contact with Prof. Anders Tellstroem’s group in Stockholm to further study the osteointegration processes applied to extraoral sites such as the eye, ear, and nasal pyramid.
He is an active member of the American Academy of Osseointegration and many other Italian and international scientific societies. He is a fellow of the prestigious International College of Dentists, the oldest international dental institution.
From 1998 to 2009, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Italian Society of Osseointegrated Implantology (SIO). He was elected President of the SIO, a position he held from 2009 to 2011. He is a founding member of the Italian Academy of Osseointegration, where he still holds the position of active member.
In 2014, together with an international group of clinicians and researchers, he founded the Digital Dentistry Society, which today is the scientific society of reference for digital technologies applied to dentistry. He was elected President of the Digital Dentistry Society, a position he held from 2015 to 2017.
He is the author of the book “Digital Implantology,” published by Quintessence in English, Chinese, and Italian. He is the co-editor of the book “Success in Implantology,” published by Elsevier. He is the author of over 50 articles in international peer-reviewed journals, particularly focused on Implantology and the applications of digital technologies to modern dentistry (see publication list).
Throughout his career, he has been invited to give lectures at the most prestigious public and private institutions on all five continents. He practices privately in Rome and Verona.
